2016 Alachua County Issues ‘Looking Forward Report’

The 2016 Alachua County Government Looking Forward Report is available online: CLICK HERE.

“The report includes financial information and accomplishments from the last fiscal year and identifies the exciting challenges we anticipate for this year,” County Manager Lee Niblock noted.

The manager prepared the report on behalf of the county commissioners:
Chair Robert “Hutch” Hutchinson, Vice Chair Ken Cornell, and Commissioners Lee Pinkoson, Mike Byerly and Charles “Chuck” Chestnut IV.

Accomplishments outlined in the report included:

  • Embarking on the first steps of the visionary Waldo Road Job Center Plan
  • Adding three new critical care transport units
  • Systematically addressing the digital divide
  • Increasing mental health funding
  • Addressing staff compensation and local minimum wage issues
  • Protecting water resources
  • Focusing on energy conservation
  • Providing a citizen-focused multi-night public hearing process to address the Plum Creek Sector
  • Plan
  • Continuing to creatively address road issues
  • Creating departmental business plans
  • Laying to rest the Juvenile Detention Cost-Share issue

Challenges identified for the upcoming year include:

  • Caring for children through a funded Children’s Services Council
  • Addressing the stormwater/cleanwater issue
  • Moving the fairgrounds project forward
  • Making decisive moves toward creating more diversity in the county’s future workforce
