Although Kevin Monroe has only lived in Gainesville for two and a half years, he has already made an impact on the community. Through his company, Cox Communications, Monroe has involved himself in local issues, specifically youth education. He has devoted his time to joining organizations with a heavy focus on this particular area. After being selected for the 40th class for Leadership Gainesville, Monroe has also gained insight into the local community, enlightening him on how he can serve a purpose in Gainesville. Through his involvement with the Greater Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, Monroe has been able to support local initiatives. For example, as the co-chair for the Transforming Greater Gainesville Economic Outreach Campaign, Monroe has worked to fund local economic development projects.
Monroe is very proud of his “three intelligent, beautiful daughters that are capable of achieving anything they want in life.” He is also proud of the strong marriage he has built with his loving wife.
Monroe is passionate about several things, but above all, he is passionate about making a difference in the lives of others. He serves this passion through his faith in God and the many impactful organizations he has joined. These include the Florida Cable Telecommunications Association, the Children’s Home Society of Florida’s North Central, the Florida Museum of Natural History, the Greater Gainesville Area Chamber of Commerce, the National Association for Multi-Ethnicity in Communications and the American Heart Association, to name a few.
Monroe is excited about the growing relationship between the Gainesville business community and the academic community. The University of Florida, Santa Fe College and Alachua County Schools are increasingly collaborating with Greater Gainesville.
At the age of 11, Monroe learned how to play tic-tac-toe. His grandfather taught him to play, and Monroe hasn’t lost a game since. Has been undefeated for over 40 years.
