Millennials in the Work Force

Millennials, typically those aged 18 to 34, have been labeled for their unequivocal narcissism, self-aggrandized entitlement, low work ethic and disloyalty to companies. In contrast, Baby Boomers, considered ages 51 to 69, are famous for their arduous work ethic and loyalty to their work and employers. Some argue that the animosity towards millennials is simply part of the cyclical pattern of the older generation dooming the newest one. A snapshot of the two generations opposing outlooks in the workplace reveals statistical differences.

2. Millennials are 50% more likely than other generations to relocate and 16% more likely to switch industries entirely for a new job.

3. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that by 2018, 25% of the workforce will be 55 and older.

4.By the year 2020, 40% of the total working population in the U.S. will be composed of millennials.

5. 57% of Millennials believe corporate loyalty is dead.

6. 64% of Millennials report that they want to occasionally work from home.

7. If flexible work options were included in a job, 82% of millennial respondents say they would be more loyal to their employers.

8. Only 16% of millennials report on planning to stay with their current employer in a decade.

9. 87% of companies say it costs between $15,000 and $25,000 to replace a millennial employee.

10.While baby boomers view their job as the time to complete necessary work for their company, 90% of Millennials report seeking a workplace that is “fun and social.”
